30 before 30

Grownups by niznoz via Flickr

February 2, 2013 marks the beginning of the last year of my twenties.  On February 2, 2014, I’ll be turning 30 and officially becoming A Real Grownup, whether I like it or not.

And rather than just letting the year pass willy-nilly, I’ve decided to take the year as a chance to both seek experiences that I’ve missed out on, as well as prepare myself for this new stage of life.  Thirty goals for thirty years. [Note: I've cheated slightly. The first entries are my 12 New Things list.]

=========+++++++++=========

  1. Publish a book (e- or tree)

  2. Write to Terry Pratchett

  7. A week-long, total digital sabbatical

  9. Learn 10 sign-language phrases

  10. Read Tristam Shandy

  11. Read Sandman

  12. Go to Localicious

  13. Visit the Bahamas

  14. Write a poem a day for 30 days

  15. Test drive a Fiat 500 (Abarth)

  16. Set up a real office

  17. Walk a 5K

  19. Harry Potter movie marathon

  20. Buy a complete “I’m an adult now” outfit

  21. Create 10 new art pieces

  22. Find a signature scent

  23. 30 day, 30-minute meditation challenge

  24. Write and send 10 valentines

  25. Get a mani/pedi

  26. Get a professional massage

  27. Watch Dirty Dancing

  28. Fully recover from surgery*

=========+++++++++=========

Obviously, the list isn’t totally complete yet; I’m sure I’ll figure out those missing ones sooner or later. And I’m sure that some of these items – particularly that last one – are making you all extremely curious. I’ll (attempt to remember to) blog these as I go along, so you can see how I’m doing over on the Listmania page dedicated to tracking my progress.

And, if you think you can help me make these dreams happen, whether through connections or donations or support, do leave a comment or drop me an email.  I would love for you to join me on my journey!

* = I’ve been avoiding writing about this because I don’t have final details. See also: scary.  But it’s coming, promise.
